Movin' on up!

I just got back from my second Interview for a Network Admin position at a local company. I'm excited!

Now, understand that I WANT this job. I want it like a thirsty man wants water. I am so sick of my current job, I can't even begin to tell you. I've been working upper level tech support for Adelphia for 4 years now, and while I love the people I work with, (Even my bosses have always been great.) the work itself is mind numbingly repetitive and dull. I mean, how many times can you fix the same Winsock issue, and the same TCP/IP problems on the same OSes over and over?

Lately it's even begun to show in my work. I am starting to care so little about my job that I find myself actually being short with customers and cutting corners in the troubleshooting process just to get the frigging losers off my phone so I can go back to surfing! You can get a feel for my impressions of some of the customers I work with, and what it's like working tech support here.

At any rate, I figured that I'd still have to be selling myself really hard when I went to this interview. I've gone through quite a few interviews in the past 6 months (about 10) and the constant rejection was really getting to me. But I had done well in the first interview, and the fact that I got a second interview was a good sign.

You can imagine my surprise when I discovered that this wasn't really an "interview" per-se, but more of a "welcome to the company" meeting! The President of the company himself welcomed me on board after telling how impressed they were with me.

I have to admit I was a tad speechless. I think I managed something along the lines of "That's excellent, that's great!" while fighting to keep a ridiculous cheshire grin from spreading across my face. (I don't think I was able to stop that one too well.)

At any rate, I will be receiving the official offer letter in the mail next week, at which point I will officially hand in my resignation letter to Adelphia, and then burn off the rest of my vacation time in my last week. (Not that I'd be very useful that last week anyways, might as well take vacation out to the end.)

It's been a long time in coming, but at 34 years old, I finally have my career in gear and moving forward. I expect that I will be scrambling to learn quite a few things very quickly, but I am up to the challenge. It's an MS shop, and I just have to brush up on my Active Directory and learn about a newer tool they are using, but I should be able to handle it with no major trouble.

Wish me luck, I imagine it's going to be crazy the next few months. I'm gonna just love it!
